The Race for American Jobs & Clean Energy Leadership kicked off at Nike Headquarters on February 16, 2010. Dozens of clean energy entrepreneurs, youth organizations and union leaders came out to voice their support for national climate and energy policies that will create new jobs and restore America's competitiveness.

The event featured a lively panel discussion and tour of Nike’s state-of-the-art green building, the C. Vivian Stringer Center, which embodies many of the carbon-cutting features on Nike’s energy efficient campus. Speakers on the panel included:
  • Sarah Severn, Director of Stakeholder Mobilization, Sustainable Business and Innovation, Nike Inc.
  • Jim Hanna, Director, Environmental Impact, Starbucks Coffee Company
  • Mark Edlen, Managing Principal, Gerding Edlen
  • Chandra Brown, President, United Streetcar
  • Joe Esmonde, Renewable Energy Liaison, IBEW Local 48
  • Garett Brennan, Executive Director, Focus the Nation
  • Moderated by Anne Kelly, Co-director, Policy Program; Director, BICEP, Ceres
In a 90-minute panel discussion, senior executives from Nike, Starbucks and area clean energy businesses will discuss the urgent need for strong climate and energy policies and the job creation/economic and national security benefits that will result from these policies. Local business leaders, NGOs and media are invited to the panel and encouraged to participate in a Q&A session.
